In these books I describe the
biographies of my family, the Schaumburg-Lippes. My granduncle Adolf Fürst zu
Schaumburg-Lippe was against the nazi regime and he was prosecuted by the
Gestapo in 1934-1936.
The 26 of march of 1936 he died
in an air crash in Mexiko. International press wrote many articles about this
New York Times wrote the 28 of
"For reasons which will
never be known the pilot turned in the direction of Amecameca and in some
unaccountable way lost control when making the manouvre."
"While it is impossible to
say with certainty that there was no mechanical failure, yet from the looks of
the clearing where the plane was found it is thought that had there been motor
failure the pilot would not have attempted to land, since by gliding
two or three hundred yards he could have entered the valley of Amecameca at
sufficient altitude to enable him in make a safe landing".
"mexican Ministry of
Communications said it was believed the pilot. at the request of the passengers
flew unusually close to the volcanoes to permit the tourists to take
NEW YORK TIMES 27.3.1936,
"Heard engines miss fire. Observers in this little town of Amecameca,
watched the giant air kiner falter as the pilots sought altitude to fly over
the pass. Then they heard the engines miss fire. A few minutes later, after the
plane had circled the little mountain twice its pilot pointed toward Mexiko D.F,
but slithered down among the rocky crap of the saddle bewtween the two
"The plane said a witness,
of the accident, passed over the town of Amecameca flying low when it was
between the volcanoes it apparently developed engine trouble, for it circled as
if the pilot intended to return to the landing field. Suddenly the ship became
enveloped in smoke and it crashed with great speed to the earth and burned
The flight was a flight from
Mexicana de Aviacion, a subsidiary of Pan American Airways.
The Pan American airways records
are in the Miami University archives.
What is very suprising is that in
the archives of Panam Records there is a file:
Folder 1 120a 57: Ford
Tri-Motored Airline: South of Mexico City, Captain Freciado J. Acosta, 1936.
This file is very astonishing.
According to the archives
information, I got this response:
Thank you for contacting the
Special Collections department at the University of Miami Libraries. Attached
to this email are two PDF scans, both featuring newspaper clippings. These two
scans represent the entirety of the folder.

That means that the only
documented information about the aircrash are articles taken from
newspapers. There are no further documents, although that accident was one of
the worst (14 persons died).
had vast properties around the
world and was in the focus of nazi regime. Two days after his death, his
brother Wolrad, a pro nazi family member took over control. The other brother,
Friedrich Christan was the adjutant of Goebbels and the third one Stephan was a
member of SS and Attache in Foreign Office in South America. My Grandfather was
the only no nazi.
Hermann Göring asked in march
1936 personally for the records regarding the accident (I know it from files of
the German Consul in Mexico, Collemberg).
So my question is, if you have
records regarding this disaster that affected a subsidiary of a us american
company and a american citizen who died, the military Adrian Borchers, who was
the pilot. Other versions say that the pilot was Preciado Acosta.
If you could provide informations
about this accident I would be very grateful. It could be that the aircrash was
no accident, that german Gestapo agents acted in Mexiko.
